Q1 - How do I become a volunteer for TriAthy?
Please e-mail us at volunteer@triathy.com and one of our race committee members will contact you. We're currently looking for people to be available on the day to help run the best triathlon in Ireland this year.
No training is required. Watch your friends compete with a "birds-eye" view. All marshals will get an event t-shirt.
Q2. What are the TriAthy race distance?
There are two options:
TriAthy Olympic consists of a 1.5km swim - 40km bike - 10km run.
TriAthy Sprint consists of a 0.75km swim - 20km bike - 5km run
Q3. Can a relay team of 3 complete?
Yes. A relay team consists of 3 people:
1 to complete the swim, 1 to complete the cycle and 1 to complete the run.

Q5. How many participants will TriAthy allow for?
We expect over 1,200 people to take part in the 2008 race (50% SPRINT, 50% OLYMPIC approximately)
Q6. Is the TriAthy a Triathlon Ireland sanctioned event?
Yes.
In order to compete, all TriAthy participants must be members of Triathlon Ireland. To become a member of Triathlon Ireland you may purchase membership online via www.triathlonireland.com.
If you are not a Triathlon Ireland member - you may still compete in the event by paying a Eur 15.00 one day licence fee. This fee is paid when entering Triathy.
Q7. I am traveling from outside of Ireland to get to the race. How do I get to Athy?
Athy is located in South Kildare on the N78 road between Kilcullen and Castlecomer. See our directions page here.

Q9. Where can I find advice on training for this event?
We will be providing an outline training programme for novices early in 2008.

Q10. I'm interested in having an expo booth at your event. Who should I contact?

Q11. What time will the race start?
Your start will depend on the wave you have chosen (fast, medium or slow wave). Exact start times will be confirmed closer to the race date. All participants must be registered, body marked and have picked up their timing chip.
The typical timetable is outlined below:
08:00hrs - Registrations
10:30hrs - Race Briefing
11:00hrs - First Wave Starts (subsequent waves in 10min intervals)
15:00hrs - Race Finished
Q12. Is there a staggered swim start?
Yes. Both TriAthy Olympic and TriAthy Sprint distance triathlons will have up to 5 well staggered waves - Fast, Medium & Slow which you will choose as part of the registration process.

You can register for TriAthy 2008 online from early January 2008.
Please note - we are not accepting postal entries for the 2008 race. Less Paper - Think of the environment!!!
Q15. Do you accept fax or phone-in registrations?
No. We only accept online registrations.
Q16. Are there any benefits to registering early?
Yes - Here they are:
- It's cheaper. TriAthy has Early Bird Registration Fees where you can save up to €8 by registering early (This applies to the first 200 entrants to TriAthy) - SEE RACE FEES HERE
- Guaranteed Race T-Shirt if you register early.
To avoid disappointment you should register as early as possible.
Q17. May I give or sell my race number to someone else?
ENTRIES ARE NOT TRANSFERABLE
Q18. Will I receive confirmation of my entry?
Yes.
For ONLINE ENTRIES: You will recieve an email confirmation of your entry to TriAthy 2008. You will also receive a separate email which confirms your payment through the PayPal system

Q19. What are the swim distances?
For TriAthy OLYMPIC - Swim is 1.5km
For TriAthy SPRINT - Swim is 0.75km
Q20. What equipment is needed for the swim?
Timing Chip and Swim cap (provided in the race pack), goggles or mask (optional), wetsuit (mandatory) and swimsuit or tri suit.
Fins & other propulsion devices are not allowed.
Details of where you will be able to hire wetsuits from for the triathlon will be published shortly.
Q21. What is the distance for the Cycle course?
For TriAthy Olympic - Cycle is 40km
For TriAthy Sprint - Cycle is 20km
Q22. Are you allowed to use a mountain bike?
Yes. You may use a mountain bike, hybrid/city bike, road bike or triathlon bike.
Q23. What equipment is mandatory for the bike section?
A bike and a bike helmet are required.
Your bike must be in proper working condition with your bike race number properly attached.
We recommend having your bicycle checked through a reputable bike shop prior to the event.
We also advise to bring along all necessary equipment for changing a flat tire or making minor adjustments to your bike.
Q24. Will 'drafting; be allowed?
No.
The "Draft Zone" is a rectangle surrounding every competitor that is 3 metres wide and extends to 7 metres behind the front wheel of the competitor's bicycle. The front edge of the front bicycle wheel will define the centre of the leading 3-metre edge of the rectangle.
A competitor may enter the draft zone but must be seen to be making forward progress. A maximum of 15 seconds will be allowed for a competitor to pass through the draft zone. ( ITU/ETU RULE 2005)
Q25. What is the distance of the run?
For TriAthy Olympic - The run is10km
For TriAthy Sprint - The run is 5km
Q26. What mandatory equipment do I need for the run?
Race number and timing chip (will be included in your race pack which you will receive at registration).
Race numbers are to be attached on the front of your body and timing chips must be securely strapped to your ankle.
Q27. How many water stops will be on the run?
One per lap for the SPRINT race
Two for the OLYMPIC race
Q28. What is the transition area?
The transition area is a common area where participants rack their bike, run and swim gear before and during the race.
It is also your assigned spot where you will transition from swim to bike and bike to run.
Relay teams have a designated region in the t-area where they exchange their timing chip strap from swimmer to cyclist and cyclist to runner.
Q29. What time does the transition area open and close in the morning?
This will be announced closer to the event date.
Q30. Who is allowed in the transition area?
Only race participants who have been body marked, have picked up their timing chip and have attached their bike race number to their bike, and transition area volunteers and race officials are the only people allowed into the transition area.
For safety, please no family members, friends, or spectators in the transition area.
A spectator area will be cordoned off alongside the transition area, so supporters are guaranteed not to miss any of the race action.
